‘Bargains to be had’ from Dove House charity shop

APPEAL AFTER A LULL IN VISITS

DOVE House Hospice has seen a lull in visits to its popular Re-use shop, linked to the introduction of permits for East Riding residents wanting to dispose of their household waste.

The charity has now taken steps to reassure people they can still visit the store, located next to the Humberfield household waste recycling centre site, in Hessle, without needing a permit, to either buy or donate goods.

The shop is operated by Dove House, which joined forces with FCC Environment, Hull City Council and East Riding Council, to generate much needed funds while also making a significant difference to the environment by reducing the waste generated by the region.

Andy Frankish, shop manager at Reuse Humberfield, said: “We really want people to know that they can still shop at Re-use, even if they don’t have a permit for the Waste Recycling Centre - anyone can pop in and shop with us.

“The items here are really good quality and there’s lots to see as we get a good variety and diversity of stock, from bric-a-brac and collectables, to household furniture, garden furniture, electrical items and TVS.

“People love to shop here and can easily spend an hour looking round at everything. There’s something here for everyone and well worth a visit if you’ve never been before. There are a lot of bargains to be had.”

The Re-use shop is open to the general public seven days a week and is a “treasure trove” of unwanted items, all of which local residents have taken to waste and recycling sites across the region and donated for resale instead of sending them to be recycled or to landfill.

Regular shopper Peter said: “I like visiting Re-use Humberfield because I like the variation of items that are always for sale, you never know what you’re going to stumble across and everything is always value for money.”

Residents visiting any of the waste sites in the region can donate to the shop by placing items which are in a saleable condition, into the container marked Re-use; simply ask staff on the site for details of where the container is located and the kinds of items that are accepted.

Alternatively, goods can be taken directly into the shop itself or donated to any Dove House shop.

The Humberfield waste recycling centre is at Ferriby Road, Hessle, HU13 0JA and is open Monday to Friday, from 10am to 5pm.
