Mcnamara reveals Gale’s FC influence

-

LUKE Gale settled in seamlessly on his first day of Hull FC training, Ben Mcnamara has revealed.

The half-back reported for training at the club’s County Road training ground on Monday morning as the Black and Whites’ senior players returned for the start of their pre-season.

After introducing himself to the squad alongside fellow new recruit Darnell Mcintosh in a team meeting, Gale headed out onto the grass for his first session with his new team-mates and he took the time to get to know some of the younger members of the squad.

Mcnamara was one of those players he spoke to and the youngster can’t wait to start learning from him.

“He’s confident, he was good,” the youngster told the Mail when asked about FC’S signing. “He went and spoke to everyone straight away and he was really welcoming to me.

“I’m looking forward to working with him, it seems like he’ll take us under his wing a little bit and teach us some stuff.

“He was out there running, everyone who was fit was out on the field, straight into it.

“He’ll be one of the most experienced players in our squad, he’s done a lot in the game, he’s had a lot of achievements and everyone can take a bit from him.”

He added: “When I look at his game, I see a lot of things that he does that I want to develop in my game and become that type of player. He’s a similar sort of build to me so I think it would be great for me to learn off him and hopefully pick up a lot of stuff what he does and take that it into my game.”

Gale’s arrival at the MKM Stadium on Friday moved quickly as he penned a deal with the club just a few hours after Marc Sneyd had left to join Salford Red Devils.

“Marc has been there for a lot of years,” he added. “He’s always been the half-back and I’ve learnt a lot from him and probably developed a decent relationship with him on and off the field.

“It’s sad to see him go but it seems like he’s got a good opportunity at Salford, so I’m happy for him.

“The Whatsapp message that everyone seems to be talking about was bang on the announcement. I had no inkling at all, I was shocked when I looked at my phone and saw it.

“I’ll miss having him around and speaking to him but hopefully he enjoys it at Salford and has success there.”
