THE Met Office have issued a warning to residents across Hull and the East Riding to be prepared for strong winds and possible disruption this weekend.

Forecasters have warned that wind speeds of between 50 and 60mph are to be expected across most areas, but much stronger gusts of between 70 and 80mph are expected in some coastal areas.

The yellow warning was issued on Tuesday and is rated as low likelihood, but medium impact on the Met Office’s Warning Impact Matrix.

The warning covers much of the UK and runs from midnight on Friday (November 26) until 6pm on Saturday (November 27).

The detailed warning from the Met Office says: “The strongest winds will arrive across northern Scotland during Friday afternoon, before becoming more widespread overnight and into Saturday morning.

“Winds will tend to slowly ease from the north during the afternoon.

“The location and strength of the very strongest winds remains uncertain.

“However, gusts seem likely to reach 50 to 60mph widely, with 70 to 80mph possible in coastal locations, particularly in parts of Scotland and north-east England.”

Here is what that Met Office warns residents to expect in the

event of the forecast being accurate:

Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely.

There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs.

There is a small chance that some roads and bridges could close.

There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.
