I’m not blaming spiking victims, but we all need to be vigilant

-

READING Lucy Marshall’s recent Mail article on spiking, I get her point, but the dramatics aren’t helpful.

I’ve previously said in a letter. My friend male was drugged in Leeds, confirmed by the hospital. My daughter’s friends, were both spiked in separate nights out, in two well-known bars in the centre of Hull.

Since the incident with our mate, we tend to try, at least have one of us, near our drinks, both during toilet and bar trips, but like anyone, it slips when you’ve had a few too many. But we’re certainly more wary.

Lucy says we shouldn’t be blaming the victims, even if they’ve had too much to drink. I’m not seeing a vast amount of people doing that.

I’m always saying to all my daughters, don’t get in such a state that you’re unaware of what’s happening to you or your friends.

It’s not blaming the victims, it’s been protective and knowing there are issues.

Lucy tried to explain this by saying, “I wouldn’t wear a bulletproof vest on a night out, why should I have to protect my drinks?”

Well, we would all love a world, where we live crime-free.

I’d prefer not to have to have an alarm on my car, or my house, or CCTV. But in life there are people who will make you the victim.

You do what you need to do to reduce your risk of being a victim. Sad, but true.

It must be difficult for police, and bars, nightclubs. It’s easy to target these places, laying the blame on them.

Only a few months back, on a trip to Beverley, we were offered drugs by some guy, and we saw his lady friend take out little bags from her bra.

And that’s my other issue. Lucy wants every person searched before entering bars, even the little pubs, that are frequented by old men.

Really? I know people are looking for any answer, but you want everyone out on a night searched?

Has she ever tried entering a football stadium? The searches there are minimal, because there’s not time to go through so many people.

Also is that stripped searched? Maybe you get the odd idiot who has banned items on display. Most of these pills, etc, are easy to hide on parts of your body.

Not sure about these injection devices, don’t know what they look like, how big or anything. They may not be as easy to hide.

But, I think it’s easy to blame everyone else. I’d say it must be pretty difficult for door or bar staff to find drugs.

It’s hardly blaming the victims, but we all need to be a little more careful on nights out.

Mike, Hull.
