A MAN who was handed a restraining order and told to stay away from his ex got back into a relationship with her and is now accused of assaulting her.

Appearing at Hull Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, Scott Greenhall was alleged to have been drunk after attending a wedding and having pushed her onto the floor. He is then accused of stamping on her head as she lay in a foetal position.

His mother allegedly witnessed the incident but did not stop her son, the court heard.

Greenhall, 42, of Axdane, Hull, admitted to two counts of breaching a restraining order, but denies assault by beating and causing actual bodily harm.

Pardeep Dhinsa, prosecuting, told the court Greenhall had been given a restraining order in March 2020 to stay away from his ex-partner.

However, in April 2021, the two started a relationship again and moved in together.

On November 14, after a trip to Tesco, they were watching TV when an argument allegedly broke out as Greenhall had been going through her social media, the court was told.

“She made her way up to the bedroom, she was followed by the defendant. He grabbed her neck and she walked towards a cupboard,” Mr Dhinsa said.

“He pushed her into the cupboard and asked her ‘Are you going back to your mum’s like you always do?’”

The victim went to stay at her mother’s and Greenhall apologised to her for what happened, the court heard.

On November 19, the court was told how the two went to a wedding and the victim was panicked about Greenhall getting too drunk.

She had explained her concerns to him and he assured her it would

not happen, the court heard, but at 4pm the victim went to the pub with Greenhall’s brother and a friend.

When she returned, he was angry and asking her where she had been, the court was told.

Mr Dhinsa said: “He then pushed her to the floor, she was laying on the floor in foetal position and he stamped on her head multiple times.

“Because of the position she was in, she could not see what he was doing, but saw his mother was watching, doing nothing.

“He continued to drag her around by her T-shirt and was calling her a slag.”

Greenhall has 13 previous convictions for 35 offences, including

violence against the same victim.

Mr Stephen Rock, mitigating, told the court that the victim had been complicit in breaching the restraining order as the two started a relationship.

He said she was abusing the order by continuing a relationship with the defendant.

“This is not the purpose of a restraining order. It is to keep two people apart,” he added.

“He explained to me his point of view, which suggests that she may have harmed herself to get him into trouble.”

Scott Greenhall will be tried on December 21 in Hull Magistrates’ Court.
