A HULL man slapped and spat at his ex-partner after pestering her to return his belongings to him following his release from prison.

The man had been in prison a few days earlier, after previously being convicted for assaulting the same woman.

When the police arrived to arrest him, he acted aggressively and spat on two police officers as well, a court heard.

Daniel Rutter, 33, of Plane Street,

Hull, admitted to assaulting two emergency workers, assault by beating, harassment without violence and causing criminal damage in Hull Magistrates’ Court.

Pardeep Dhinsa, prosecuting, told the court on November 12, Rutter was released from prison.

He proceeded to call and text his ex-partner 200 times to retrieve his things.

On November 16, she agreed to drive his things to him, and the two then had sex in her van, the court was told.

The court heard that Rutter began to feel jealous, at which point he hit the victim twice and spat at her.

“She waited for him to fall asleep and contacted the police asking for him,” Mr Dhinsa said.

“Her jaw ached and she was deaf in her left ear.”

When the police arrived, Rutter acted aggressively and spat at two police officers, the spit landed on one officer’s face, and another officer’s shoulder.

In a statement read in court, the victim said: “This has impacted me emotionally, and I have become an empty shell.

“I am done with him, and I do not want this to affect my relationship with my daughter.”

Mr Walsh, mitigating, told the court that Rutter is aware of his unsavoury offence, and understood he would receive an immediate custodial sentence.

He had contacted his ex-partner because he was unable to make arrangements for any of his items prior to his previous sentence, the court heard. Rutters has 34 previous convictions with 85 offences, which include assault, aggravated bodily harm and common assault on the same victim.

The magistrates ordered Rutters to pay £125 in fines and sentenced him to 18 weeks in prison.
