Outstanding trio are leading Tigers towards safety
MCCANN PRAISES THREE KEY STARS IN CITY’S REVIVAL
Grant Mccann has praised the ‘outstanding’ performances of Greg Docherty, George Honeyman, and Richie Smallwood in Hull City’s recent winning run. Keane Lewis-potter’s midweek strike earned the Tigers a 1-0 victory at Cardiff City and a third straight victory.
The win in Wales has lifted Mccann’s side three points clear of the relegation zone, and the manager believes his side are now adapting to a ‘tough division’ following promotion.
However, the 41-year-old has singled out the form of Docherty, Honeyman and Smallwood for being integral to the team’s recent revival.
Mccann told the club’s website: “Over the last three games, I’ve been really impressed with the response of the group.
“We want to continue to build on what we’ve done over the last three games and try and win again.
“I think Richie (Smallwood), Greg (Docherty) and (George) Honeyman have been outstanding.
“The performance levels of those three have definitely helped us over the last three games.
“I think a lot of the players are adapting to the level now - it’s a tough division.”
Millwall are the latest visitors to the MKM Stadium, and arrive on the back of a four-match unbeaten run including a draw to Bournemouth in their last outing.
Mccann has no fresh injury concerns following Wednesday’s win against the Bluebirds, but believes his side face a tough test to maintain their recent form.
He added: “I was pleased to see so many fans make the trip to Cardiff. It’s a long way to go. To have that many of them there supporting us gave the players a real boost.
“Everyone who was with us at Cardiff will be available again on Saturday.
“We’ll see how the team is in terms of freshness. We have to take everything into consideration.
“It’s another tough game for us (against Millwall). We want to try and keep the momentum going.”
