No surprise that people of Hull dumped Labour administration

-

SO, as most people expected, the Tories got a bloody nose, when most expected it to be a vote on national issues rather then local.

From what I see in councils won, Labour hasn’t received the landslide results it seems to have expected.

In fact, they’re banging on about London, what a surprise. Much of their previous lost election was based on their obsession with London and their failure to listen the northern cities.

Let’s face it, the biggest result was for the Lib Dems - people deciding against the Tories, but couldn’t bring themselves to vote Labour.

We’ve seen the Lib Dems gain council seats for some time, but it

doesn’t progress to general elections.

In fact, they fell flat the last election, when they ran on the one campaign focus of Brexit.

But, hey what a surprise, Hull went against the grain and dumped

Labour - no surprise to me.

Its failures in this city, the arrogance with them spending hundreds of thousands on gates at the Guildhall to protect their cars.

Money on a cruise terminal plan, then having the cheek to tell our local residents there’s no money available to help youngsters in our area with such stuff as a play park.

Then Daren Hale literally telling the people of this city, we’re not listening to you, your concerns of traffic chaos in this city are baseless.

Some good has come from the council, but the city’s city centre is rubbish when it comes to quality shops, compared to other cities. I find myself having to drive out to Leeds, Sheffield, York for shopping - something I hear often from people. Antisocial behaviour on our estates ongoing for years, the same comments coming from those in charge again and again, with little changing.

I and my wife voted on local issues and we backed the Lib Dem councillor, who over the years has made himself known, helped campaign on issues round here, put out regular leaflets, in comparison to the Labour candidate, whom I’ve yet to see, and only recently had a leaflet from asking us to vote for him.

Nope, and I’m happy to see the Lib Dem councillor win his seat here comfortably. Well done.

Mike,

Hull.
