Thanks for the help and votes at city polls

-

ON this Saturday the first post local election meeting of North Hull Constituency Labour Party will take place.

The event will provide members, candidates, election agents and activists with the opportunity to reflect on the local election results, the campaign strategies employed, the feedback from the public collected and collated from door knocking and analysis of the results.

Before we meet, I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the activists who stuffed envelopes, delivered letters and leaflets, put up posters at polling stations, carried out telephone canvassing, knocked on doors, ran committee rooms, did the back-office paperwork and kept everyone going with lifts, food and tea and to the individuals who put themselves forward to be selected as candidates.

Many of your readers may not know this but being selected as a Labour Candidate is a thorough process of submitting application forms and portfolios, first stage selection interviews, then shortlisting and interviews by local wards who make the final choice.

Candidates feel privileged to have been chosen and the process ensures equality of opportunity for all members.

I would also like to congratulate the Councillor Marjorie Brabazon, Councillor Sarah Harper Riches, Councillor Aneesa Akbar and Councillor Anita Harrison on their electoral success.

The campaign strategy in Hull North Constituency was concentrate campaigns in three target wards; Avenue, Bricknell and

North Carr in all three of these wards Labour was successful. Furthermore, not only did Labour Candidates win, in two the swing from Liberal Democrat to Labour was over 9%. Of course in Bricknell the swing was from Conservative to Labour.

Most importantly, I would like to thank the members of the public who turned out to vote in the local election.

Democracy is important and your opportunity to express your view on who your city is managed.

Labour lost control of Hull City Council by a small margin and I want to assure you that we are listening, we listened on the doorstep throughout the campaign, our Labour Councillors and Diana Johnson MP listen regularly through surgeries and we have listened to the local election result.

As chairperson of Hull North Constituency Labour Party, I want to ensure that we take into account views from as many people as possible.

I want to hear from your so please feel free to contact me. Email: karenwoodlabour@gmail.com. Karen Wood, Chair Hull North Constituency Labour Party.
