Keir Starmer is a man of great honour

-

THE Durham police force are investigating Keir Starmer and his colleagues over an alleged breach of lockdown rules.

Starmer has been investigated previously for the same event and cleared of any wrong doing by Durham’s finest. However, after intense pressure from Downing Street and the right wing press, the police agreed to take another look.

The Conservative strategy appears to be that by backing the

Labour leader into a corner the resulting furor would deflect and relieve the pressure on their leader.

What the Tory brains trust didn’t factor in was that unlike Johnson, Starmer is a decent an honourable man.

Keir Starmer says he is confident that he didn’t break any rules and will not receive a fine, unlike Boris Johnson. He went further and said that he would step down as leader of the Labour Party if Durham police see it differently.

This is risky for Starmer. On one hand, if anyone should know the law, it must be the former Director of Public Prosecutions. On the other hand, the police do make mistakes and could end a political career by issuing a £50 fine.

Whatever happens, the Tory’s have failed here.

If Starmer stays in post he will retain the moral high ground and will continue to heap misery and pressure on a dishonest and incompetent man who will never resign.

If the Labour leader resigns his party will elect a new leader and deputy who could capture the publics imagination in ways that the current pairing don’t seem capable of. It’s all in the hands of the Durham constabulary so, no pressure then.
