Temple Gym members take on challenge

-

A LOCAL gym took on an inspirational challenge to raise funds for local charities.

Members of Temple Gym, which has sites in Humber Street and in Hesslewood, attempted to burn 3,000 calories in a challenge named “The Temple Three Thousand”.

The ambitious participants started with a training session in Hesslewood, before undertaking a 10km run along the river and completing the challenge with a training session in Humber Street.

They aimed to burn 1,000 calories during each instalment of the challenge.

The gym members were raising money for three charities in Hull Emmaus Hull and East Riding, Paul for Brain Recovery, and the 360 Foundation.

The challenge aimed to raise £3,000 for each charity and all of the funds will go towards supporting local people in our communities.

Speaking to the Mail ahead of the challenge, Temple Gym owner Dale Robinson said: “We’re really pleased to be able to give our clients a challenge that’s worth doing and that makes great use of both sites.

“It’s a really difficult challenge, which makes it all the more worthwhile.

“We’re proud to be able to raise money for three amazing local charities and assist them with their important work.”

The challenge started at the Hesslewood site with an outdoor boot camp.

Gym members were put through their paces with battle ropes, sledgehammers, and kettlebells to burn their first 1,000 calories.

The second stage involved either a 10km run along the river from the Hesslewood site to Humber Street, or a 60-minute cycle for those who preferred to burn their calories on a bike.

The route culminated at Hull’s Temple Gym where the final stage took place.

Once at Humber Street, the final 1,000 calories were burned in a “strength and sweat” session that pushed the members to their limits.

Once the group had burned 3,000 calories each, the charitable challenge was complete.

The group completed two benchmark sessions in the past couple of weeks before the big event, with one burning 1,500 calories and another burning 2,000 calories.

As well as those who took part on Sunday, others will be attempting the challenge at a later date due to a number of Covid cases among participants.
