Beverley prove far too good for Dudley

-

BEVERLEY secured an invaluable 32-14 victory over Dudley Hill in their battle to retain their Division Two place, with the bottom five sides all on six points.

The Blue and Golds took a sixth minute lead when Lewis Poskitt was pulled up just short before a quick play the ball and quick hands sent Luke Parker out wide unconverted.

Minutes later Poskitt’s pass looked to have sent Luke Parker over but he was tackled before he got the ball with an open line. The hosts had strong claims for a penalty try but only a penalty was awarded and the resulting set came to nothing.

The visitors hit back mid-way through the first half when Beverley’s failure to complete their sets put them under pressure and Dudley Hill converted it into points with an unconverted Damien Smith try.

In the 25th minute he was on hand again for another try. The extras were not added again but Dudley Hill were 8-4 up.

Ten minutes later Beverley went ahead when Sam Roe ran a good angle and player of the match Dan Precious finished off with Josh Poskitt obliging with the extras for 10-8.

Deep in stoppage time at the end of the half Bobby Howdle dummied his way to a try and Poskitt converted for 16-8 at the break.

The home side struck a crucial blow in the 51st minute. Callum Cone sneaked out of dummy half to put Francis Coggle in the clear. He chipped ahead over the full back and regathered to score beside the posts. Josh Poskitt’s conversion made it 22-8.

A Billy Riby try and Josh Poskitt conversion stretched the lead mid-way through the second half. Aiden Batey did reply with a try for the visitors converted by Neil Wall in the 70th minute.

Soon after, a break by Alex Calvert saw him send Coggle away for his second.

The extras were not added but the game was safe at 32-14 with seven minutes left.
