Hodgson: Evans is improving every week

COACH IS HAPPY WITH FC PROP

KANE Evans may have missed Hull FC’S trip to St Helens on Friday night through injury but Brett Hodgson is delighted with the form he is starting to show in black and white.

Evans missed the clash at the Totally Wicked Stadium after picking up a pectoral strain in training, bringing an end to his five-game long stint in the side.

The prop’s FC career started slowly as he sat out the club’s first three games through suspension before making his debut in the defeat to Castleford in March.

His impact was limited in his first few appearances as he tried to find his feet within the side, but his influence and confidence seems to have been growing in East Yorkshire in recent weeks.

The head coach believes it was always going to take the Fiji international a bit of time to showcase his best in the Super League, but having seen him settle down, he’s pleased with the progress he is making. “I think he improves every week,” Hodgson said. “I’m disappointed with the fact that he’s out, I think Kane’s a player that needs to play to continue improving and he’s been contributing better. “We knew it would take a little bit of time and it’s easy to forget that he hadn’t played for many months and then missed the first period of this season over here. He’s slowly getting there.

“I think he’s started [to find form], I think he contributed very well in the last three weeks and he improved in every one of those games and played big minutes. “He’s a different type of player to a Ligi Sao or a Chris Satae but he’s busy and his work off the ball was excellent and allowed other people to shine as well. Hopefully he’ll be back sooner rather than later.”
