Rovers squad boosted for Dragons test

-

HULL KR boss Tony Smith has provided an extended injury update ahead of Saturday’s match against Catalans Dragons.

As reported, Brad Takairangi required surgery on his hamstring and looks to have played his last game for the club.

“He requires surgery,” said Smith. “He will be booked in this week. He went for a scan, and it confirmed what we knew. It’s a pretty significant tear, and it’s also the ligament. So it’ll be a lengthy repair for Takas.”

However, there is good news on the injury front. The Rovers boss announced the return of four key players who will all slot into the starting 17 this week but admitted he could be without one of his star players.

“Dean Hadley is available, yes,” said Smith. “Deano is ready to go this weekend. He’s trained all week and is fine. We also have Albert Vete, Elliot Minchella, Frankie Halton and Will Dagger, who are all in for us this weekend, which is excellent news for us.

“Unfortunately, Matty Parcell copped a knock on his neck during the Castleford game, and he’s touch and go at the moment, we aren’t sure if he will make it at the moment, but apart from that, we’ve got no other short term issues.”

Smith also was happy to reveal Sam Wood and Mikey Lewis are close to returning to action but admitted this weekend would be too early for the pair.

“I’d say for the Salford game in two weeks. They’ll both be back, but they’ve got a little bit more running to do before they can play, but it’s close.”

Smith also brought the media up to speed with the issues surrounding prop forward Tom Garrett, who hasn’t featured for the Robins since the beginning of April due to complications with concussion symptoms.

“Tom has had various tests, and he’s got one more to do,” Smith revealed.

“He’s been seeing a consultant in London, and he has to visit him to check something out. It’s not straightforward.

“The consultants are just going through the process of ruling things out rather than knowing exactly what the issue is.

“Tom seems better at the moment, but that’s all I know.

“I’ve been assured he’s getting the proper care and treatment, and the club will treat the situation best possible way.
