I appreciate utility tag at the Robins

-

JIMMY Keinhorst has spoken for the first time since signing a one-year contract extension at Hull KR last week.

The 31-year old has become a key figure in the Rovers side, with his versatility and consistency seeing him feature heavily so far in 2022, and the German international is delighted to be part of next season’s squad.

“I’m pleased to extend my stay at Hull KR,” said Keinhorst.

“It’s been an enjoyable past few years, and we want to keep building. I’m enjoying it a lot and am glad to have sorted my future out so early.

“The morale is excellent within camp, and we want to work hard for each other. Even though the recent weeks have been poor, we can get through this period together.

“A few people have signed on again already, which shows we are happy to be at the club and improve Hull KR. So it’s looking good, and us lads contracted for next year can concentrate on just rugby now.”

After signing in 2019, Keinhorst has had a mixed bag of fortunes during his time with the Robins, and he reflected on the rollercoaster of emotions he has been through over the past few years.

“I’ve come back into the fold recently, but you cannot rest on your laurels, things change quickly, and I took my chance,” he added.

“As long as I’m doing my job, it’ll keep me going.

“It’s strange because I don’t have a consistent role, but I’m embracing that, especially at this stage of my career. I appreciate the utility tag more now.

“If you are younger and stuck in a utility role, it can be seen as a negative one, but it has made me unique at my stage, and I enjoy helping the team when needed.”

Head coach Tony Smith had some kind words to say about his player, as he praised Keinhorst’s determination and value to the club.

Smith is delighted to see the star extend his stay, even if he himself will not be a part of his journey going forward.

“Jimmy is a great squad player,” said Smith. “He’s been great for us. He’s worth his weight in gold with his versatility and is a massive asset for us. He’s a terrific man who’s a pleasure to work with. He always gives 100 per cent and never holds back. A player like that is worth keeping around for sure.”
