Danny’s taken his leadership role to the next level at KR
MCGUIRE’S COACHING SKILLS ARE PRAISED
HULL KR utility man Jimmy Keinhorst says assistant coach Danny Mcguire has brought a lot to the club since taking on the role under Tony Smith and hopes to see Rovers extend Mcguire’s stay in East Hull.
The pair have worked together on and off the field for over a decade and won the 2015 Super League Grand Final for Leeds Rhinos during their treble-winning campaign, and Keinhorst is happy to be still working with the former Rhinos contingent at the club.
“I’ve known the likes of Danny Mcguire, Ryan Hall and Matt Parcell from my Leeds days,” said Keinhorst.
“I enjoy working with them all. We all had a good relationship at Leeds, which has carried over here.”
The Rovers player also discussed how his former captain Mcguire has embraced his transition into coaching and believed he would always take an upstairs role due to his leadership skills as a player.
“He (Mcguire) has taken to coaching really well. He’s enjoying it and brings a lot to the group. His tips and wording of situations really go a long way, and you can see the quality he brings to the half-backs,” he added.
“He demands a lot, but that’s where we need to be. You could see him becoming a coach during his playing days, and he’s taken his leadership role to the next level.”
Like fellow assistants David Hodgson and Stanley Gene, Mcguire is out of contract at the end of the year, but Keinhorst hopes they can keep their journey going and is desperate for Mcguire to sign a new deal with the Robins, despite Smith departing at the end of the season.
“I’d love to see Danny stay around. He is a quality coach, and we can see as a group what he brings, but that choice is for Danny and the powers that be to decide, but I’d love to continue working with him,” he said.
