Cherries’ Kilkenny open to loan deal

Bournemouth midfielder Gavin Kilkenny has admitted he would be open to a loan move this summer with Hull City reportedly among the interested clubs.

Kilkenny made 14 appearances for the Cherries last season as they won automatic promotion back to the Premier League.

The 22-year-old was involved fairly regularly during the first half of the campaign but did not play a single minute between their 1-0 defeat at Middlesbrough on December 18, until their final day victory over Millwall.

And with Bournemouth now likely to strengthen across the pitch this summer, Kilkenny could find regular minutes even harder to come by.

City are likely to be busy this summer as Acun Ilicali gets to work on his first full transfer window in charge of the club.

The Tigers will be in the market for a new central midfielder following the departure of captain Richie Smallwood - and Kilkenny would fit the bill of Ilicali’s lofty ambitions.

And via quotes from the Irish Examiner, Kilkenny has admitted a loan move ‘would be good’ for him at this stage of his career as he looks for a side who can offer him regular game time. He said: “Ultimately, you have to be realistic. With Bournemouth going into the Premier League, a lot of people are asking if I’m going on loan and that’s probably what I’m thinking now.

“I tried to go previously but they wouldn’t let me.

“Maybe they were right because I’ve seen a lot of loans not work out. “It can be tough going on loan but I’ve two years left on my contract and, at 22, I’m at an age where a loan would be good for me.”
