Humber Bridge half marathon is postponed

-

THE Humber Bridge Half

Marathon and Fun Run has been postponed for 16 weeks until September with organisers citing “traffic management” changes as the cause of the delay.

Due to Covid, there has not been a Humber Bridge Half Marathon since 2019.

The half marathon will now be combined with the Hull Marathon & Relays, which itself will now finish at Hessle High School with the half marathon.

Event organisers have apologised for “any disappointment caused to those hoping to do both races”.

The Humber Bridge Half Marathon and Fun Run was to be held on the same day as Hull 10K on Sunday, June 12, but will now take place instead on Sunday, September 25.

Posting on social media on June 1, event organisers said: “The

2022 Humber Bridge Half Marathon & Fun run will be postponed by 16 weeks until Sunday, September 25, 2022.

“We know many of you are looking forward to the race after a three-year gap.

“We will now be combining the race with the Hull Marathon & Relays powered by Eon Visual Media which will now finish at Hessle High School with the Half Marathon.

“The delay has come about due to some changes to how the traffic management for the event needs to be implemented, and the time frame to apply for the necessary changes is not possible for the original date. Our main aim is to ensure the safety of those that take part is our top priority.”

All entrants to the half marathon have been emailed about the change in plans.

“We have made the decision to combine the events due to the lower entry numbers across both events alongside finding a suitable alternative date for the Half Marathon at short notice,” event organisers added.

Hull Marathon and Relays are continuing to accept entrants, while the half marathon and fun run has reopened entries as of June 2. Further updates on the arrangements for the new date are expected to be confirmed in coming weeks, including road closures.

The half marathon is part of the Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All event and covers a distance of 13.1 miles.

Partners include the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Candlelighters, Children’s Air Ambulance, HER Breast Friends, HHCP, Hull and East Yorkshire Mind, Special Stars Foundation, Macmillan Cancer Support, Dove House Hospice.
