Hookers come to fore as duo gel on and off pitch
FRIENDSHIP AND GOLF RIVALRY AT KR
THE way modern-day rugby league is developing, having two dynamic hookers is crucial to a team’s attacking threat, something Hull KR has in abundance.
The pairing of Jez Litten and Matt Parcell came to fruition at the back end of 2019 when they joined the club from Hull FC and Leeds Rhinos respectively, and over recent years the duo have become key cogs in the KR wheel.
After weeks of speculation, Parcell recently signed a new deal with Rovers until the end of 2024, and Litten is delighted to see his fellow number nine continue his journey in east Hull for at least another two years.
“Matt is great,” said Litten. “I thought against Salford he was brilliant.
“We had plenty of good ball, and he took his chances to break down their defence, he got the lads on the front foot, and it was good to see.
“I’m happy he’s staying for at least another two years, we have a natural partnership building, and I enjoy working with him.
“Last year we really clicked, and we hope we can continue as long as we are both here.”
But it’s not just the field where Litten and Parcell click, as the pair have found a mutual love of a different sport and the competitive nature of the duo will be put to the test in the next few weeks.
“We have a good understanding of each other’s style of play, but we love golf off the field, so that’s what we do together away from rugby.
“He’s got a lower handicap than me, so I get some tips off him,” Litten joked.
“I stopped playing when I did my shoulder, but my standard isn’t too bad.
