City’s Cartwright set for loan move

ENGLAND Under-19s goalkeeper Harvey Cartwright will be allowed to leave Hull City on loan this summer, with the Championship club keen to see the 19-year-old play regular football.

Cartwright is viewed as a future number one at the MKM Stadium and penned a new long-term contract last month, but they feel he’s ready to be let loose in the EFL.

Cartwright made his Championship debut at QPR in February when he came off the bench to replace Matt Ingram, before making being handed a first start three days later for the visit of Barnsley.

Following Ingram’s departure to Luton Town on an emergency loan for the final two games of the regular season, the Grimsby-born stopper was back-up to Nathan Baxter.

Loan spells at Barton Town and more recently Gainsborough Trinity has seen Cartwright pick up valuable experience of men’s football in non-league, but City now see the next step for him to be playing league football, and will send him out for the whole of the new campaign.

Peterborough’s Grant Mccann is said to be on the lookout for new two goalkeepers having put former number one Christy Pym on the transfer list and sanctioning the departure of Dai Cornell, and is believed to be keen on a reunion with Cartwright in League One, while there is interest from League Two.

City are not thought to be in any rush to make a decision on Cartwright and are working hard to ensure the move is right for the 20-year-old.

“I definitely think that I can play for Hull City, it’s whether I do or not and that’s when I’d look at the loan move,” he told the Mail last month.

“If I’m not going to play then we’d consider a loan, but nothing has been discussed yet. We’d sit down and see what everyone thinks and then see if the loan was the best option or if staying here was. I always want to play minutes in the first team and get to the top level as soon as I can, whether that’s on loan or in the first team at Hull City.”
