MP’S anger over ‘smelly’ station toilets

‘UNACCEPTABLE AND BOTCHED’ LOOS

- By EMILY JOHNSON emily.johnson@reachplc.com @Hulllive

THE Hull North MP has posted to Twitter about the “unacceptable” toilet and waiting area at Paragon Station.

Dame Diana Johnson angrily tweeted Transpennine Express on Saturday evening over the state of the facilities and said she had been trying to get the problem sorted for years.

Ms Johnson claimed the toilets have smelt of urine for years, which she says is now affecting the smell of the waiting room. She deemed the state of facilities “unacceptable” and said that passengers should not be expected to endure it.

Many responded to Ms Johnson’s tweet agreeing that the toilets are not fit for purpose and never seem to be clean.

Ms Johnson said: “Not sure why it’s taking Transpennine Express Trains years to sort out the toilets at Hull Paragon station, which again this morning stink of urine. Expecting passengers to sit in a smelly waiting room is not acceptable. When are we going to get the botched toilets sorted out once and for all?”

When one social media user responded and claimed the company simply don’t care, the MP agreed.

She said: “Yes, that’s absolutely right I don’t think they do care. It’s been years of raising this issue and others including the way they chose to manage Hull Paragon station.”

Others also agreed with the criticism. One Twitter user said: “I think a toilet attendant needs to be on shift the entire time they’re open, to be honest, agree that they’re disgusting and I won’t use them. Considering that they’re a very small facility, keeping them clean seems to be such a arduous task.”

Another added: “I won’t use those toilets. The floor is always soaked in urine.

“If my little boy needs to go I take him to Tesco. I won’t let him go in there.”

The Mail has approached Transpennine Express for a comment.
