Four stand-outs as KR demolish Giants

-

HULL KR reserves ran out 66-16 winners against a youthful Huddersfield Giants side at Sewell Group Craven Park on Saturday.

First-teamers Korbin Sims, Greg Richards and Sam Wood were all involved for Danny Mcguire’s side, who ran in 12 tries in the demolition.

We take a look at four standouts from the impressive victory.

Bailey Dawson: For a back-rower to score a hat-trick takes some doing, even when you score 66 past a team. What stood out was his work rate in defence and eagerness to back up his team-mates in attack.

Dawson has a good rugby brain and found it easy to get himself in the correct position to hit some lethal angles and back up several breaks downfield.

Phoenix Laulu-togaga’e: PLT is a raw talent that needs to be nurtured carefully. Fundamentally, he needs to work on specific aspects of course. His natural ability to find gaps and score from anywhere on the field is priceless, and when you have a prospect with those credentials, you could have a future gem.

His hat-trick was spectacular, including a chip and chase for his opener. However, expect the fullback to head back out on loan after recovering from a recent injury.

Adam Rusling: Although he is on loan at Cornwall, Rusling featured for the Robins at scrumhalf and ran the show in the attack.

The former Castleford playmaker found it too easy at times to create gaps in the Huddersfield defence and came up with several assists, and had a fantastic day with the boot. You can see why Rovers have opted to send Rusling on loan as he is ready to make the step up into regular first-team rugby.

Charlie Cavanaugh: The dynamic dummyhalf caused the Giants issues around the ruck all afternoon, breaking the line on numerous occasions and crossing the whitewash for a try. It’s clear to see the influence of Litten and Parcell in his game, with his vocal presence down the middle keeping Rovers on the front foot throughout, but unfortunately a injury whilst scoring cut his afternoon short. The hooker is out of contact at the end of 2022, and Rovers should be looking to extend his deal and consider sending him out on loan next year to get some game time under his belt at senior level to aid his development.
