Woman made neighbour’s lives a misery

-

A WOMAN made her neighbour’s lives a misery with a home plagued by “drugs, swearing, shouting and banging on windows”.

Council house tenant Stephanie Milner has now been ordered to pay more than £1,000 and has had a closure order put on her East Yorkshire home to give “some peace” to people living nearby.

A court heard how the property at 82 Kent Square, Bridlington, had been the scene of persistent serious antisocial and criminal behaviour, before officers from East Riding Council were able to impose a three-month closure order on it. The order was granted by Beverley Magistrates to the East Riding anti-social behaviour team today (Friday, June 17), with the order taking immediate effect.

Ms Milner did not attend court, despite originally objecting to the application at the first hearing last week. She was ordered by the court to pay £1,234.21 in costs to the council.

The court heard how the order was necessary as several residents living in the area had made a number of complaints to the council and Humberside Police about serious incidents of antisocial behaviour, disorder and criminal activity in, and linked to, the property and the nuisance it had caused residents. Over recent months, the seriousness of these incidents had escalated despite the intervention of the council and the police.

The allegations include suspected drug misuse, shouting, swearing and banging on the windows and doors of the property at all hours of the day and night. Nigel Brignall, antisocial behaviour manager at East Riding Council, said: “We take all complaints of antisocial behaviour extremely seriously and will not tolerate this kind of behaviour, regardless of whether they’re council tenants or not.”

Anyone found to be trying to enter the property or found in the premises will be committing a criminal offence and could be liable to arrest and potentially face a six-month prison sentence. Residents in the neighbourhood area are asked to contact Humberside Police on 101 should they witness anyone trying to enter the property or activity within the property.
