Twine will cost City more cash
Hull City will need to up their bid to land summer target Scott Twine. That was the message from MK Dons manager Liam Manning who, if the League One club are to cash in on their prize asset, has warned potential suitors they will have to meet a higher asking price.
It has been reported the Tigers and Burnley have both made £4m offers for the 22-year-old midfielder, who netted 20 times and contributed 13 assists for MK last season.
Whether that figure was accurate or not, Manning has told local radio station Three Counties Radio that the amount his club has been offered so far falls short of what would be needed to prise Twine away from Stadium MK.
The former West Ham Under-23s coach said: “Naturally, you’re going to get that interest, obviously, given how well he did (last season). He was the League One Player of the Year but, as it stands, we have not had a bid that meets our valuation of him.
“There’s obviously interest in him, but we’re in a good, strong position where we can be quite strong in the valuation we hold and expect for him.
“It’s like I said a little while ago - if somebody’s journey goes quicker than the team’s and it’s a fair deal for the club and a fair deal for the player, then it’s something that you look at.
“But, as it stands, we know there’s interest, but there’s not been a bid that meets our valuation. There have been a couple of bids, but they’re not where they need to be yet.”
Manning also stressed how happy he has been with Twine’s attitude following his return for pre-season amid all the speculation concerning his future.
“It sums him up as a person,” the MK boss declared. “He’s in here working. “He did the testing like everybody and that comes down to the culture here. We’ll treat you as a person first and have open communication. We’ll treat you properly and we expect that back and Twiney is a terrific character, so you wouldn’t expect anything different from him.”
As previously reported in the Mail, Tigers owner Acun Ilicali discussed a move for Twine with MK Dons last week, while Burnley’s interest in his services has emerged over the last 24 hours and the two clubs are not expected to be the last to test the water with MK Dons.
