MILLWALL have been linked with a move for Hull City playmaker George Honeyman with the 27-year-old now into the final 12 months of his contract at the MKM Stadium.

City activated the year option on his contract earlier this summer and hope to be able to negotiate fresh terms in the coming months.

Honeyman turned down the initial offer made by the club last month and fresh improved terms have been put to the influential star with a hope the ex-sunderland man will commit his long-term future to the Tigers.

Given the current stand-off between both parties, the door has been opened for potential suitors to try and tempt City into moving on one of their key men over the past two seasons.

Millwall, just as they have done in previous transfer windows, have been credited with interest according to News at Den, while a return to Sunderland has also been talked about.

Honeyman amassed five goals and four assists in the Championship last term in a campaign that saw him miss much of the opening two months with an ankle injury, and it’s understood he finished the campaign with a shoulder problem but continued to play through.

Prior to the Championship campaign, Honeyman was City’s stand-out performer starring onthe way to the club winning the League One title and promotion.

He was named in the Team of the Year for a raft of outstanding performances, and losing him ahead of the new campaign would be a significant blow. “Yes, we did. He’s still considering it,” said Tan Kesler last month when asked if the club were keen to keep him.

“We gave him a longer offer, we had the option deadline so we had to take it.

“We want to make him happy. If he’s happy, I’m very confident,” before Acun Ilicali reaffirmed his desire to see Honeyman remain at the club.

“For me, not only his playing quality but his character, too,” Ilicali said. “Every time I see him on the pitch I see a person who is fighting for the team, sometimes getting himself into trouble.

“He’s a very important character and I want him to stay.

“I want him to stay being happy. We showed him how much we want him to stay, it’s his decision.

“If George is happy with us we will do everything to make him stay. I’ve had warm conversations with him, as a character, he’s the type of guy I want to see in my team.”
