EXCITEMENT is building for the Armed Forces Weekend being hosted by the seaside town of Cleethorpes, less than an hour’s drive from Hull, with lots to do and see for visitors of all ages.

Undoubted highlights of the Cleethorpes Armed Forces Day event will be the thrilling flying demonstrations by some of the nation’s best loved military aircraft.

Crowds will get a double helping of awesome airborne displays, today and tomorrow.

The star attractions of the schedule are destined to be the Red Arrows, the Typhoon display team and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, as well as the helicopters of the Royal Navy Black Cats.

The salute to the UK’S Armed Forces will be the biggest display seen since the resort hosted the national Armed Forces event in 2016 (Scarborough is hosting this year’s national celebration, also taking place over the weekend).

Central Cleethorpes and the length of the seafront are expected to be thronging with people eager to take in everything that the programme promises to deliver, including two afternoons of flypasts.

The day will culminate in a spectacular 20-minute long firework display.

The specific timings for the flying displays are flexible, organisers have said, adding: “Please be aware that some elements can be affected by weather and mechanical reliability, and we will keep information updated as soon as we are informed of any changes.”
