Brentford in pole position to secure Lewis-potter

BUT PROTRACTED SAGA RUMBLES ON

Brentford remain the leading contenders to sign Hull City star Keane Lewis-potter this summer. The Premier League club retain their interest in the England Under-21 frontman and hope to tempt the Tigers into doing a deal.

The Bees pushed hard for the 21-year-old last summer and saw an £8m bid rejected by City’s previous owners and Thomas Frank tried again in January, only to be rebuffed by Acun Ilicali following his takeover.

Reports linking City’s Yorkshire rivals Leeds United with a move are understood to be wide of the mark, the Mail understands, while claims suggesting Everton offered £2.5m as an initial bid were also incorrect.

Another Premier League club are interested, but it’s not the Toffees or Leeds, and a move to West Ham doesn’t appear likely at this stage.

A move to Tottenham is also not on the cards for a player who netted 12 times in the Championship last season and played every minute of City’s 46 league games.

Lewis-potter’s future remains the biggest talking point of the transfer window and the will he stay or will he go saga is set to rumble on for a little while yet.

The Hull-born youngster has been given extended leave by head coach Shota Arveladze after his impressive exploits with the Under-21 set-up which saw him score his first international goal on his full debut against Kosovo earlier this month.

City’s talismanic ace will return to Cottingham on Monday where he’ll join up with the Tigers squad who are already a week into their preparations for the new Championship campaign which kicks off on July 30 with a home clash against Bristol City.

Speculation is only going to intensify as the season opener edges closer.

Ilicali remains hopeful of convincing Lewis-potter to remain at the MKM Stadium next season.

However, he is understood to be willing to sanction the departure of his prized asset, if Brentford meet the valuation he has and the player makes it clear he wishes to take the opportunity to play in the Premier League.
