HULL FC are close to signing Newcastle Knights youngster Tex Hoy.

The 21-year-old is at home in either the full back or half back positions.

The Mail understands the Knights’ young gun has been on FC’S radar for a while now as the club seek a new half-back for next season.

Discussions on a deal to bring him to East Yorkshire are well underway, but aren’t thought to be fully finalised just yet.

Making his NRL debut in round 3 of the 2020 season, Hoy has played 21 games in the Australian competition to date, scoring three tries and landing eight goals.

He is not currently featuring in the NRL each week, instead playing for Newcastle’s reserve grade side, but standing at six feet tall, he is athletic, slender, and also has some pace about him.

A running half more than a distributor, Hoy would be a fresh addition to the Hull spine, and one that could fit nicely alongside Jake Trueman, who is also expected to join the Black and Whites next year.

He will be a direct replacement for Josh Reynolds, who the club parted ways with this week after reaching a mutual agreement.

Many NRL clubs have been looking at Hoy but he has yet to secure a new deal.

He has played four NRL games for the Knights this season, but hasn’t featured since wearing the number six jersey in round 10.

He is out of contract at the News South Wales club at the end of the year.

The signing of Hoy will not effect the future of Jake Connor either, who will be staying at Hull despite reported NRL interest.
