Hopes KLP will stay for City’s push

-

HULL City vice-chairman Tan Kesler hopes Keane Lewis-potter will decide to stay at his hometown club and resist growing overtures from Premier League Brentford.

The Bees believe they are closing in on striking a deal for the England Under-21 international, but Kesler hopes City’s star man will remain at the MKM Stadium and lead the push for promotion this season, despite confirming another bid had been lodged.

There’s a growing buzz around the MKM Stadium following

Acun Ilicali’s January takeover with fans snapping up more than 1,000 memberships on the first day of general sale, and the club hope their talismanic ace will lead the charge up the Championship table in the coming months.

Lewis-potter has attracted plenty of interest this summer from the likes of West Ham, Tottenham and Southampton. Brentford, however, are the only club to make a formal bid and are confident of concluding a deal.

Kesler, though, says the Bees still remain short of the Tigers’ valuation and admits the ball remains largely in Lewis-potter’s court when it comes to what he wants for his own future.

“There is a firm offer, but we’re not doing anything yet. It’s not enough. He’s such a good guy and we did what we had to do for him,” Kesler told BBC Humberside Sport.

“With Keano, the most important thing is that he is from here, and he has one more final step to achieve in Hull. If he believes in that no problems, if he doesn’t believe in that then no problems and if the offer is right we will consider it.

“I’m not saying we’re considering selling him. The market is open, we’d like to hear, we’d like to talk and that doesn’t mean we’re going to decide.

“I’d really like him to stay one more year and take us to the play-offs, if not the promotion.”
