New public toilets for town seafront
NEW public toilets are set for Hornsea seafront after councillors backed plans to convert a kiosk.
East Riding Council’s approved plans are set to see the kiosk, in South Promenade, converted to house three women’s and two men’s toilets, two urinals and one disabled.
Areporttotheeasternarea Planning Sub-committee stated they would serve locals and visitors close to Hornsea Leisure Centre, fish and chip shops, amusement arcades and other attractions.
North Holderness ward’s Cllr Barbara Jefferson said she was delighted the plans had come forward after a three-and-a-half-year wait.
The plans are set to see a kiosk currently used by the council’s streetscene services converted into the public lavatory.
Part of the building will remain a council mess room and the plans also feature a fenced-off bin storage area. Its surroundings include a stretch of beach opposite, the Trans Pennine Trail
Gateway, South Promenade leading to a static caravan park to the south.
One public comment was lodged in support of the plans, saying the facilities were much-needed.
It stated: “I suggest the addition of a drinking water fountain on the outside of the building, for drinking and filling bottles. This would encourage the use of alternatives to drinking water in plastic bottles.”
Plans stated that although there were no plans for a fountain, the in the toilets drinkable.
Cllr Jefferson said although she was disappointed that space on the outside of the building was not being used to fit more toilets in, she was happy with the plans.
The councillor said: “I’m delighted to move approval on the toilets in Hornsea at last.
