Beverley MP leaves role as minster in government
He is going to focus on local issues
BEVERLEY and Holderness MP Graham Stuart has left his ministerial role to focus on local issues including road safety and broadband delivery.
Mr Stuart had served in the Government for most of the past eight years and was appointed as climate minister when Liz Truss became Prime Minister in September 2022, before being reappointed in the role along with the energy portfolio when Rishi Sunak replaced her a few weeks later.
He has now been replaced by North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson.
Mr Stuart says he is proud to have served in the Government and that he will “fully support” the Prime Minister from the back benches.
The Conservative MP, who was first elected to Parliament in 2005, says there are a number of local campaigns he wants to focus on including his recently launched Make Our Roads Safer campaign, continuing to work to end the erection of telegraph poles for broadband delivery, installing defibrillators in the community through his CADEY campaign, improving access to dentistry and healthcare, working with farmers on flooding and making progress on the proposed rail link between York and Hull.
Mr Stuart said: “I’m proud to have served in the Government for most of the past eight years, but now it’s time to focus on Beverley and Holderness. “I’m proud to have achieved much over the past 18 years, from rock armour at Withernsea to saving East Riding Community Hospital; installing life-saving defibrillators in rural communities and slashing fares on the Humber Bridge.
“I’m looking forward to working with communities to Make Our Roads Safer, helping the Council take full advantage of the opportunities brought by devolution, pressing the case for York to Hull Rail and improving healthcare in Beverley and Holderness.”
In addition to his role as energy and net zero minister, Mr Stuart also served in the Foreign Office, the Department for International Trade and as an assistant whip to the Treasury.
