Clean energy is the only energy security
I’VE just seen something I’ve been told was impossible. Our electricity grid was being powered by less than
5 per cent fossil fuels just now and less than 8 per cent for a full day!
People who are resisting Net Zero have told us that this can’t be done and that the grid would collapse. The real-time statistics for the grid tell me they’re wrong.
At the same time, we were also exporting excess electricity to Norway where it’s probably being used to replenish their hydroelectric storage facilities. Good, because we’ll be able to import clean energy from Norway when we need it.
Also at the same time, the BBC is reporting that thousands of homes have lost power due to storm Kathleen which is also causing travel chaos across the UK.
It also tells us that potato and other arable farmers are seeing their crops degrade or worse due to the exceptionally wet weather.
Both these events are likely to become more frequent or more extreme if we disturb the climate further.
The disruption that climate change will bring to farming and our lives is far more serious than accepting more renewable energy.
So, let’s repeat the “impossible” more often and reduce our gas use further.
Let’s allow wind turbines to be built in England again because it makes no sense that it’s easier to build an incinerator.
Let’s also put more offshore wind farms around places that don’t have them, like South West England.
Let’s also make clean energy work more effectively by adding energy storage. This would be true energy security.
