Will on-loan Dragon Abdull ever return to Peters’ Robins?

-

JORDAN Abdull was in action for Catalans Dragons as they fell to defeat against Wigan Warriors on Thursday night.

The half-back is currently on loan with the French club, having been allowed to depart Hull KR in the off-season.

He’s had a steady start to life in Perpignan, scoring three tries and producing four assists in eight Super League appearances, while his kicking game has been an obvious factor for Steve Mcnamara’s side.

However, Abdull’s long-term future is still unclear.

While the Robins allowed him to leave, he is still contracted to the Craven Park club until the end of the 2026 season.

It’s fair to suggest, though, that his long-term future is not in east Hull.

It remains to be seen where Abdull plays next year, but when a

British half with such quality is on the market, it’s only natural that there are clubs interested. There are at least two Super League clubs that Rugby League Live is aware of that are keeping tabs on his movements.

But for now, the ball is very much in Catalans’ court.

As part of their loan arrangement with Hull KR, they have the first option to make Abdull’s move permanent, and they still have time to make that decision.

Rugby League Live can reveal that Catalans have until July 1 to decide whether they wish to sign the England international on a longer-term contract.

Whether the Dragons do that remains to be seen, and while Abdull’s Rovers exit will almost certainly become a permanent one in the off-season, clubs vying for his signature will have to wait a little longer yet.
