“Toy with the amount of blur and even the blur distance to create a more realistic effect”
When IOS 11 was rolled out, one of the lesserhyped, but incredibly useful, features was the ability for third-party apps to make use of the depth data gathered by the dual cameras of the iphone to smash open the creative doors for smartphone photographers and allow them to explore new effects and artistic possibilities.
The iphone 7 Plus (and above) uses data captured by the standard wide-angle and telephoto lenses to create a faux shallow depth-of-field effect where the main subject is the focus and the background is blurry. This is known as Portrait Mode, and Anamorphic Pro lets you tap into this photographic data to edit and take your Portrait photos further on your Mac. Your Mac’s Photos app is integrated into the Anamorphic Pro interface to provide easy access to your iphone images and allows you to apply a true anamorphic depth of field, just like the expensive camera lenses. This can then be adjusted with bokeh shape, highlights and lens distortion to make your Portraits really stand out – perfect for Instagram devotees.
Using Anamorphic’s simple toolset you can assign the focal area of your image and toy with the amount of blur and even the blur distance to create a more realistic effect. You can also experiment with an extensive collection of colour filters. The version 1.7 update adds a brush mask tool so that you can add blur to any photo and an improved lens blur algorithm handles sharp edges way better than before. If you’re serious about iphone photography then this is a must-have app.
