How to make selective adjustments to a specific colour’s saturation and luminance
•How to get to grips with expert grading techniques
By default your iphone can capture strongly saturated colours, sharp detail and contrasting shadows and highlights. However, most filmmakers will use a camera that can be set to capture footage with a flat contrast and desaturated colours. The resulting ‘neutral’looking clips are easier to grade in a range of creative ways. Flat contrast clips are also more likely to feature detail in the darkest shadows and brightest highlights. Here we’ll demonstrate how histograms help ensure a healthy range of tones when we boost a flat clip’s contrast. We’ll also show you how to tweak the saturation and brightness of colours to make particular objects stand out. We’ll also show you how to quickly transfer multiple grading effects to a new clip.
