Screen Time is both a blessing and a curse, letting you know just how many hours you’ve spent glued to your iphone or ipad on the one hand while making you feel rather guilty for potentially wasting so many said hours on the other. In the current climate of uncertainty, our devices can be essential for keeping in contact with friends and family members, but they can also be huge time-erasers, so it’s good to take control over how you use them, and for how long.

You can use the Screen Time settings to stop yourself endlessly checking social media updates after you’ve gone to bed at 10pm during the week, for instance, while pushing downtime back to 2am on a Saturday in order to give you easy access to your apps during a Friday night out. In other words, it lets you schedule downtime to suit your day-to-day, changing lifestyle. Here’s how it works.
