Take it to extra extremes

The standard built-in Pitch Correction tool often delivers just enough of an ‘auto-tune’ effect depending on how much you apply it. But there is another way to not only shift the pitch of a vocal to another key but also shift the acoustic tonality.

Available as a plug-in, the Vocal Transformer has a similar pitch shift control, but also a Formant slider for adding squeakier, helium-type effects to a vocal while remaining within key. Here we’ll examine how this plug-in is used.

1 Plug-in power

Press B to show the Smart Controls. In the Track inspector, show the Plug-ins stack and click the right edge of a plug-in to navigate to Pitch>vocal Transformer.

2 Pitch and format

Click the ‘Vocal Transformer’ plug-in to show its floating controls. Here you have access to Pitch and Formant controls to adjust pitch and alter the low/high vocal tract.
