Make selective adjustments

Creatively grade a clip’s colours

-

Take a sample

Use an eyedropper to sample a particular colour in a clip. You can then selectively adjust the hue, saturation or luma (brightness) of the sampled colour to grade the clip creatively.

Color Board

The Effects browser’s Color Board enables you to make global adjustments to a clip’s colours and tones. We used it to boost our clip’s flat contrast. We also increased the saturation of all the clip’s colours equally.

Curves

Each hue, saturation and luma curve starts off as a straight line. Once you drag a sampled colour’s control point up or down you create a curve that alters that colour (and some of the closely neighbouring colours on the curve).

Hue/saturation

The Hue/saturation Curves effect enables you to grade a clip more creatively. Here we’ve used it to darken the colour of the bluebells and lighten the green/yellow background to make the flowers stand out more.
