Perform these maintenance tasks

Check storage usage

Keep an eye on free and used storage. Click ‘About This Mac’ on the Apple menu, then click Storage>manage. Look for large files, downloads, etc. Delete files that are not needed.

Check for updates

Open the App Store and select ‘Updates’ on the left to see if any apps need updating. Open System Preferences>software Update to check for macos updates. Run apps and check for updates, too.

Remove unused apps

Open the Applications folder and sort apps by the date they were last opened. You may find some that haven’t been used for months. Free up space by dragging them to the Trash.

Drive first aid

Errors can occur on the Mac’s internal drive and with external USB drives, such as those used for backup. Check all the drives for problems and repair them using First Aid in Disk Utility.
