Create a hard drive clone with Carbon Copy Cloner
Devise a bootable copy of your Mac’s hard drive
The final destination
Your destination drive should be formatted macos Extended (Journaled) and bigger than your Macintosh HD so it can be booted from if you need to in the future.
Select your Source
For a full clone of your Mac’s hard drive, select Macintosh HD (unless yours is called something different) as your Source in Carbon Copy Cloner’s Task Plan interface.
All the files
Under the Source section you’ll have the option to choose what you clone. As we want to be able to boot our Mac from this backup, ensure that ‘All files’ is set.
Set a schedule
For a fully bootable clone of your hard drive, we recommend setting it to be remade weekly or at least monthly so that you’ll always have relatively recent data ready.
Email the errors
Under the Email options, select ‘Only send on errors’ so you’re alerted when your clone isn’t correctly backed up and can fix the issue quickly, ready for the next backup.
