Your desktop just became a little friendlier and more organised thanks to Stacks.

One of the main advantages of macos is its ability to let you concentrate and focus on the app you are using at any given time. You will not be distracted by countless screen artefacts and really can get on with your work. But the disadvantage is that the desktop can become somewhat redundant and at times hard to organise. With Stacks, however, all that will change and you can enjoy your desktop environment again. It is very easy to use and is likely to become one of the Mojave features that you use more often than any other.
1 It’s a mess!The desktop is a blank canvas and the temptation to dump files and images on to it without thinking is great indeed. Over time, it becomes more likely that the mess will get even messier.
6 It’s still yoursYou can decide how you use your desktop going forward and Stacks will not take over the entire experience. The subtlety of the feature is impressive and efficient in equal measure.
5 Expanding StacksClick on any Stack and the files will be instantly expanded so that you can view and work with them. Click again and they will revert to their previous Stack which makes everything feel efficient.
4 Folders are exemptYour desktop folders will not be grouped and will remain separate, but they will be moved to the right-hand side to keep the desktop clean. Much thought has gone in to the way Stacks works.
3 And… organisedAll of your files will automatically group themselves by type and will be pushed over to the right-hand side to leave the desktop clean ready for you to work properly with it in the future.
2 The right-clickRight-click anywhere on the desktop and then hover over ‘Group Stacks By’ to see some options appear in the submenu. To demonstrate Stacks we will choose ‘Kind’ and will see what happens.
