Get High Sierra ready for Mojave

-

1 Check the specs

Is your Mac capable of running macos Mojave? In the Apple menu click ‘About This Mac’. Any model from 2012 onwards is fine but older models are incompatible.

2 Check the space

Is there sufficient space on the Mac’s disk to download and install macos Mojave? Select the Storage tab and make sure there is plenty of free storage space on the disk.

3 Clear the junk

If the storage is nearly full (less than 20GB for instance) get Startup Disk Full Fixer from the Mac App Store. Use this free app to scan the disk and clear out junk and caches.

4 Check for updates

Some apps may need updating to work with Mojave and so before installing it, open the Mac App Store, select the Updates tab and update any apps that are listed.

5 Use Disk Utility

Go to Utilities and open Disk Utility. This shows drives and partitions and you can check free space, check external backup drives for space and so on.

6 Check the health

For each drive and partition listed in Disk Utility, select it and then click the First Aid button in the toolbar. Problems are rarely found but will be fixed if they are.
