If you want a bigger, more informative weather app for your Mac, rather than relying on the brief meteorological overview supplied by your Notification Centre, then Weather Guru fills that spot nicely. When launching the app for the first time it will request access to your current location and then exist primarily as an unassuming menu bar icon. Click on this and a window appears on your screen providing an altogether more in-depth overview of the weather in your area, including a seven-day forecast and hourly updates for the current day.
If you want to add extra locations, for example if you want to track the weather at an upcoming holiday location, then type keywords into the top bar (where it displays your current location) and pick a match from the list. You can then click on the star icon to the left of the top bar to add it to your favourites list, which itself is accessible by clicking on the list icon to the left of the star.
The app also comes with an extensive preferences pane, including options to change the way in which the temperature and wind speeds are displayed and to set a theme (Light, Dark or Automatic, based on your System Preferences). We would certainly have liked to have seen more of these – perhaps seasonal themes – just to make the weather window more attractive when it is on your screen. Maybe this will come in an update?
Not that Weather Guru needs gimmicks, it does a highly competent job of relaying the weather anywhere in the world in a single click.
