Ramsey pips Daly to St. Patrick’s Cup

-

THE Captain’s Drive-in on Saturday, March 9 was a huge success with the pleasant weather contributing to its enjoyment.

The same cannot be said for the St. Patrick’s Cup which was held on Saturday, March 16.

Despite the excellent course condition, the deluge of rain brought the competition to a soggy finish with players retreating to the clubhouse in a saturated state. Most of the players got in before the course became unplayable.

For the men, the big-hitting Callum Ramsey pipped Conor Daly on countback with both returning 40 points.

Third place went to Darren Byrne with 39 points and 4th place went to Mark Mcclelland with 38 points.

For the ladies, Orla Foster managed to return a score of 36 points despite the weather.

Dympna Slowey took second place for the ladies with 32 points.

In the “find the joker” competition last week, Frank Mcgowan drew number 12 and won £10 and this week Scott Hamilton drew number six and won £10. The elusive joker has still to be found. The jackpot is up to £5300.

The final quiz of the season was held on Friday, March 15. “The Pirates of Menz Pants” team won the prize for the best team name. That was Deirdre Mcsorley, Rosemary Wylie and Donna and Caroline Lenaghan.

Rosemary Wylie was making good use of her parking space which she won in last week’s draw. The team name was good enough for one prize but the ladies also came second in the quiz. They were outplayed by Neville Cathcart’s team who were the overall winners.

The March club draw has also taken place with winner Bill Robinson scoring £125, with £75 for Raymond Millar in second, £50 for Mark Conway in third and £25 for fourthplace Stephen Gault. The next draw will take place in April.

The Golf Ireland inter club fixtures have now been drawn and team captains have been selected. There is a webinar available to assist the team captains. This will be circulated to captains and a meeting will also be arranged to give further assistance.

The junior section finished the season on a high having increased their numbers to more than 50 young golfers – and 32 of these young hopefuls participated in Junior Captain’s Day at the end of August.

The new season swings into action with new junior captain Bella Shaw.

On March 28, the juniors will come together for a meet and greet session with club pro Chris, and a golf school will run over the Easter holidays in conjunction with the ongoing golf lessons on Thursday nights.

The Monthly medal competitions will be played for on Tuesday, April 2 (ladies) and Wednesday, April 3 (gents).

The ladies hold their introductory nine-hole competition, the traditional ‘Bring and Win’, on Tuesday, March 26. This will be followed by the first supper night of the year.
