Teemore and ‘Bridge teams triumph in Indoor Finals
THE Cumann na mbunscol Indoor Gaelic football finals day took place in the Castle Park Centre, Lisnaskea on Wednesday past with a fantastic day of football.
St. Mary’s P.S. Teemore were victorious in the girls competition with St. Mary’s P.S. Maguiresbridge lifting the boys title.
There were four boys and four girls teams who qualified for finals day after a number of qualifying blitzes in the lead up. The girls teams were St. Martin’s, Garrison; St. Mary’s, Tempo; St. Mary’s, Teemore and St. Mary’s, Maguiresbridge. In the boys section St. Mary’s, Maguiresbridge; Holy Trinity P.S.; St. Mary’s, Teemore and St. Patrick’s, Mullanaskea were the finalists.
Boys Competition
Maguiresbridge claimed the win over Holy Trinity in game one with a couple of goals from Colum Mcguigan and points from Micheál Prunty and Jude Mccoy being enough for them in response to scores from Nate Mcconnell for Holy Trinity who also had a good performer in Ciaran Dorrian who intercepted possession on a number of occasions.
Sean Flanagan, Daniel Brady and Joe Curry scores were enough to help St. Mary’s Teemore see off St. Patrick’s Mullanaskea who had Callum Bogue leading for them.
Teemore qualified for the final after edging out Holy Trinity with goals from Davin Quaile, Sean Flanagan and Daniel Brady with Daithi King responding for Holy Trinity for whom Caiden Mulligan was a strong performer along with goalkeeper Finn Brewster who had a number of good saves as well as distributing the ball well.
Joining Teemore in the final was Maguiresbridge who saw off Mullanskea with another goals double from Colum Mcguigan and points from Mícheál Prunty and Jude Mccoy.
The final group stage game was between Holy Trinity and neighbours Mullanskea with Holy Trinity grabbing the bragging rights through scores from Daithi King, Callander Mccullion, Nate Mcconnell and Caiden Mulligan.
The final between St. Mary’s,
Maguiresbridge and St. Mary’s, Teemore was an enthralling encounter with end-toend play throughout and super skill levels on show.
A goal apiece by the deadly trio of Jude Mccoy, Micheál Prunty and Colum Mcguigan, along with Mccoy points and superb individual performances from goalkeeper Pearce Traynor and Joe Bannon in defence had Maguiresbridge shading it. Teemore made them work for it though with Sean Flanagan, Daniel Brady and Joe Curry again leading figures for Teemore with great support from Fionnán Mcdonald.
The game was in the melting point right to the end with Maguiresbridge eventually claiming the title on a 3-03 to 1-07 scoreline. They will now go on to represent Fermanagh in the Ulster Cumann na mbunscol finals.
Girls Competition
Eventual finals St. Mary’s Tempo and St. Mary’s Teemore met in game one with the latter getting the win by 3-01 to 0-05 with Ellie Flanagan and Kayla Fitzpatrick to the fore. Tempo had strong performances from Kitty Mccusker and Evie Campbell.
St. Martin’s Garrison faced St. Mary’s Maguiresbridge with the Garrison girls grabbing the victory. Rosa Alonso led the charge with four points along with singles from Molly Feely and Ella Murphy in response to a ‘Bridge goal from Emilie Donnelly.
Teemore saw off Garrison by 3-03 to 0-05. Rosa Alonso with a trio of points added to by further scores from Eadaoin
Murphy and Molly Feely kept St. Martin’s in the game but Molly Brady and Ellie Flanagan goals got Teemore across the line.
Garrison met Tempo with both teams needing a win to progress to the final. It was the Tempo girls who were the stronger team with big contributions from Aoibhe Kelly and Ava Pakenham, and an outstanding display by Rua Breen who hit 1-05 from play.
Maguiresbridge saw off Teemore with two Freya Mulligan goals proving crucial with Emilie Donnelly adding a third along with points from Aoibhinn Mccaghery and a superb goalkeeping display from Meabh Mccaffrey.
The decider was a repeat of last year’s final as St. Mary’s Teemore met St. Mary’s Tempo once again. This was another action-packed final with an abundance of talent, determination and commitment shown by both teams.
Rua Breen (2-03), Kitty Mccusker, Cailhla Meehan and Milly Flynn were top performers for Tempo with goalkeeper Aoife Mcloughlin pulling off some wonderful saves.
Teemore had Ellie Flanagan in fine form with great support from Kayla Fitzpatrick, Ava Owens and Molly Brady as they took the title with a dramatic late goal from Flanagan.
It has been a wonderful few weeks for the Teemore girls as they added the Indoor Gaelic football title to the Indoor Camogie crown. They too go on to represent their county at the Ulster Cumann na mbunscol finals in Magherafelt later this month.
