Fermanagh are hit for six by rampant Louth in Ardee

-

Allianz NFL Division Two

Louth 6-17 Fermanagh 0-11 minutes a poor pass allowed them to break and Mulroy fired a shot off the crossbar before the ball was recycled to him and he popped it over the bar.

Fermanagh were living dangerously with Ross Bogue playing high out the pitch and just before the 10 minute mark Louth found the net for the first time.

A poor ball by Garvan Jones back towards Bogue was intercepted by Mulroy and he had the job of firing the ball to the empty net from 50 yards out and this was followed up with a score from full-back Dermot Campbell and it was 1-03 to 0-00 after 11 minutes.

For the next 10 minutes Fermanagh looked as if they had got over the nightmare start hitting four points in a row. Jones converted a free before Ultan Kelm hit a good score.

The visitors almost had a goal as Joe Mcdade got a fist on a Kelm shot that dropped short but it came back off the post.

The rebound was collected and played to Declan Mccusker who fisted over.

And there was another sight of goal as Conor Mcgee played Shane Mcgullion through on goal but he blasted over to make it 1-03 to 0-04.

But it was as good as it would get as the impressive Ciaran Downey pointed before Louth’s second goal.

Corner-back Peter Lynch ran on to a knock down and hit the net and this was followed by a Ciaran Keenan point.

Sean Cassidy hit a good score to make it 2-05 to 0-05 but a third goal came straight from the kick-out.

Durnin won the kick out and drove at goal before squaring to Mulroy who made no mistake. Jones and Mulroy traded frees as the half wore on but Louth would have the last say as Conor Grimes got on the end of a move to find the net as the half ended 4-06 to 0-06.

Any thoughts that Louth would ease off in the second half with such a lead were quickly put to bed as Grimes curled over a beauty after 30 seconds.

Jones responded with a Fermanagh free before Grimes repeated the trick with another outrageous score followed by a Ryan Burns point.

Mulroy hit a fine score with the outside of his boot and then Downey found his way towards Fermanagh’s goal and after leaving a Fermanagh defender on the ground with a solo dummy hit the net and two minutes late Tom Jackson did the same. With the game well and truly out of reach, Fermanagh could only muster scores from Cassidy and substitutes Fionan O’brien and Diarmuid King while Louth has points from Keenan, Durnin, Mulroy, Downey and Lynch to wrap up an impressive victory.
