Local swimmers represent schools at national competition in Dublin
Irish Minor Schools’ Championship
THE Irish Minor Schools’ Championships 2024 took place on Sunday, March 24 at the National Aquatic Centre, Dublin. 11 Enniskillen Lakelanders swimmers qualified last October at the regional schools gala in Bangor and were high with excitement as they headed off to Dublin to do their schools proud on the National stage.
For Enniskillen Royal Grammar School, Holly Barkley secured a four-second PB in the 100m Individual Medley.
Holly Mccabe had a great swim maintaining her PB in the 50m Freestyle.
Martha Mccreesh collected a new PB in the 100m Individual Medley to hit the wall in 11th place in the National ranking. She also swam well in the 50m Freestyle, maintaining her PB.
Holy Trinity Primary School swimmer, Mollie-kate Brewster swam a 4.7 second PB in the 50m Backstroke to secure a silver medal. She then claimed another silver podium spot in the 50m Butterfly event with a three-second PB.
Joseph Mckenna hit the wall with a whopping eight seconds off his 50m Breaststroke PB, collecting a silver medal.
Keira Salcedo won a place in the 50m Breaststroke final with a new PB bringing her to 9th place in the National ranking. She also picked up a four-second PB in the 100m Individual Medley race.
For Mount Lourdes Grammar School, Sophie Hanna secured a new PB in the 50m Backstroke event.
Myleene Leonard collected new PBS in both the 50m Freestyle and the 50m Backstroke races.
For St. Patrick’s Primary School, Mullanaskea Niamh Howell claimed new PBS in both 50m Breaststroke and 50m Backstroke and Jakub Mikievicz Lumayad qualified for the 50m Breaststroke Final where he hit the wall with a new PB in 6th place. He also went on to collect another PB in the 50m Backstroke event.
Finally Tattygar Primary School’s Clara Leonard swam well in the 50m Backstroke.
Also Crea Mullen claimed new PBS in the 100m Individual Medley and the 50m Freestyle as well as securing a qualifying time for the Summer National competition in Limerick.
The young swimmers now look forward to the next exciting event for junior swimmers on the calendar which is the third round of the Aquasprint League which takes place on April 13 in Cookstown.
