ENNISKILLEN completed their season of matches in the Championship League with a comprehensive win against bottom-of-the-table Carrickfergus.
It sometimes says more about a club when it is dealing with hard times rather than good.
It was pleasing to welcome the Carrick President with his guests and that Carrick turned up to fulfil the fixture and to confirm that their club would see better times ahead.
As for the match itself, wellrefereed by Chris Cahoon, it was obvious that the home side from the off possessed too much strength, pace and power for the visitors.
Despite resting a few players, Enniskillen played an attacking brand of rugby moving the ball at high speed to the flanks.
Despite difficult conditions, tries came early and rapidly through Harry Ingram, Sam Balfour and Jack Rutledge all within the first 15 minutes.
Ingram scored two further tries before half-time as well as one for Stephen Fox and one for Stephen Balfour.
After half-time, it was that man Ingram again for his fourth try as well as try-scorers Andy Dane and Tim Harte.
The referee concluded the match by agreement with some time to spare but the match did emphasise the difference in standard at the top and bottom of the table.
For Skins, a case of what might have been as the finishing positions clearly showed that the previous week’s last-minute penalty effectively cost the club the league championship and an opportunity to compete in AIL rugby.
All credit to the current squad of players who provided their supporters and friends with a very entertaining and successful season.
All eyes now turn to Ravenhill on Easter Monday, April 1 for the Towns Cup Final.
