Ulster Superbike Championship

ENNISKILLEN and District Motorcycle Club members were back in action for a busy Easter weekend of racing with round two and three of the Ulster Superbike Championship.

The one-day racing events were taking place on Easter Saturday at Bishopscourt Race circuit, followed by round three on Easter Monday at Kirkistown race circuit.

Bishopscourt Round Two

Conditions were sunny and dry at Bishopscourt for round two. A familiar colour scheme was back on track, with Loris Britton, son of the late Richard Britton, making a return to racing after a few years absence. Britton, who was on his Yamaha Supersport Cup machine, finished his first races of the season with 4th and 7th place finishes.

The Superbike class, which is separated into ‘pro’ and ‘cup’ classes, saw club member Caomhan Canny being upgraded to pro, taking a 15th and 17th place finish. In the cup class, Fivemiletown’s Aaron Ebbitt, who has also returned to racing after a long break, finished 4th and 5th position on his Honda.

In the Pre-injection 600cc class, Ballinamallard’s Steven Love was starting his season on top form on his Kawasaki by taking home two 1st place finishes, gaining top championship points. Club member Michael Carr finished both pre-injection races in 4th place.

The Production twin class had just one local finisher in the form of

Adam Mckee, who took two 5th place finishes. In the smaller classes it was local rider Kyle Parkes who maintained a solid 3rd place finish in both races in the Moto3 class, and a second and third place finish in the Classic up to 350cc on his Honda 350. In the same classic, class club member and Clogher man,

Edwin

Gilmore took home a 5th and 6th place finish on his 1967 Bulcato 350 machine.

Kirkistown Round Three

The slightly damp second race day was at Kirkistown Racing circuit. With ever increasing costs, it’s not always easy for the privateer competitors to complete in every round, with some choosing not to take part in this event in favour of future rounds.

In the Supersport Cup race Steven Love took a podium 2nd place and 4th place finish. In the same class, Loris Britton was back out, however didn’t have the best day after encountering mechanical issues with his Yamaha machine; Britton finished in 14th place and had to call it a day for race two.

Love continued his form in the Pre-injection 600 Class, taking 1st place in race one and 3rd place in race two, securing a solid lead on the championship score board.

In the same class, Michael Carr finished with a 2nd and 5th place.

With several more rounds taking place up until the Autumn, there will be plenty of action in the coming months.

Next racing event will be the Cookstown 100, on April 26 and 27. Admission is £25, which includes practice and racing on Friday, and full days Racing on Saturday.

Next round of the Ulster Superbike will be Saturday, June 1 at Kirkistown.
