Mallett mania as TV’S Timmy cycles around Fermanagh

THE sight of the bright colours of Timmy Mallett whizzing along the roads of Fermanagh has been embraced by residents in the past week.

Mr. Mallett is a colourful personality, well-known for his popular children’s television series in the 1980s and 1990s – and his cover of ‘Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini’.

The popular presenter has been cycling across Northern Ireland wearing his signature bright colours, with his trip around the province capturing the imagination and hearts of many local people, many of whom have been keen to take a selfie with him.

Reflecting on his journey, Mr. Mallett posted on social media that Fermanagh is “a lovely county of lakes and kindness”.

Mr. Mallett’s videos on social media sites have been incredibly popular, with praise for his encounters with “delightful locals” who, he says, have given him a warm welcome.

His watercolour paintings have captured the area in vibrant style, including one of rowers from Enniskillen Royal Boat Club out rowing in front of

Enniskillen Castle.

He visited various local locations and provided some interesting history and facts about the area as he cycled through.

Mr. Mallett enjoyed a relaxing time staying at Corrigan’s Shore House, Lough Erne Resort and Lusty Beg Island Resort.

Visiting Belleek, he said: “I love the joyous quirkiness of the most Westerly town in the UK,” and recorded his cycle through the historic village, where he crossed effortlessly from Northern Ireland into the Republic of Ireland – a simple move which brought him great joy.

Various attractions he visited included Tully Castle, Belleek Pottery and Drumskinny Stone Circle, as well as villages in the area.

He battled the elements against Storm Kathleen last Saturday as he made his way to Tyrone to continue his circumnavigation of Northern Ireland.

Mr. Mallett is cycling around the UK and Northern Ireland in memory of his late brother, Martin Mallett, who had Down’s syndrome.
